As mentioned, not only do these make a fabulous STEAM Spring Activity for Keystage 1 and Keystage 2 (or at home of course! He was a bit skeptical at first (he saw my old tights in dismay), but soon was rather pleased with out DIY Grass Head creations. Before you scroll down to my instructions, check out this sweet video I found of a little girl making and trimming a grass head. Make sure you don’t keep the head too wet – we did at first, which meant that the mouth fell off and that the googly of didn’t dry properly for ages. How to make a Grass Heads is super easy and fun and is a great activity for both the home and the classroom. I bought a small "lawn repair kit" which has seeds pre-mixed with slow release fertiliser, but you can use whatever seeds you've got handy. After a good soaking, sit Mr Grasshead in his pot, feed him with water and he will grow a wonderful head of grassy hair you can even trim with scissors! Because of high demand, I enlisted the help of Rainy Day Mum and between us we have greated these easy Grass Head Lesson Plans for KS1 and KS2.
A full head of hair takes 3-4 weeks to grow, and "greying and balding" will occur after about 6 weeks.
