About this deal

The Itiwit has a capacity rating of 330 pounds, significantly less than the 400-pound capacity of the Explorer K2. Value-wise the Itiwit is about the same price, but does not include a pump or paddles. If you need greater weight capacity for two adult paddlers, the Explorer K2 is the obvious choice.

Intex has been distributing high-quality products at an affordable price for over 50 years. They know a thing or two when it comes to affordable inflatable kayaks. That is part of the allure of the Intex Explorer K2 and the Intex Challenger K2, quality products at an affordable price. Intex Explorer vs. Challenger With three separate air chambers, a single punctured tube won’t sink the Intex Explorer K2, but it will affect performance and buoyancy and should be repaired as soon as possible. The kayak comes with a few small patches for straightforward repairs. Rigid prow– The curved prow and reinforced inflatable supports provide increased rigidity and shape in the kayak, allowing it to manage light waves and not take on water. The performance of Intex Explorer K2 is average. That means that it lies between the gray area of being a good or lousy kayak. It's effortless to control Intex Explorer K2 on calm waters. However, it doesn't go too fast, no matter how hard you paddle. This might be due to the design of its hull that doesn't reduce drag, which the surface tension of water applies.Grab line on both ends– The grab lines make it easy to handle the Challenger K2, and simplify anchoring and towing. However, the problem with the canoe-like design is that it doesn't allow for speed. It would have been better if Intex Explorer K2 followed the streamlined design of the Intex Challenger Series. Size When purchasing an Intex Explorer K2 Kayak, you need to consider what you want to use it for. Due to its low profile made of a flat body, it is mainly recommended for the use of recreational kayaking. It includes great features, such as the removable skeg that helps balance and rigidity, as well as the inflatable I-Beam that provides extra support; the low and accurately streamlined position, in addition, makes the maneuverability simple and easy. Thus, being able to move in straight lines without too much hassle and change directions easily using just the paddles and without having to fight the kayak itself is one of the undoubtedly best features of the Explorer K2.

At just 10 feet 3 inches long, the Explorer K2 is low on leg room for the rear passenger, and a pair of taller people may have a hard time being comfortable over prolonged periods in this kayak. The paddles should be longerLike other Decathlon products, this kayak doesn't come with a pump or paddles and has a higher price tag than the Explorer K2 for instance. However for its built quality and Decathlon customer service it should be a strong contender in your inflatable kayak list. As the Excursion Pro is designed to be an all-around recreational kayak, it has a wealth of features to enhance your time on the water. With a removable Go-Pro or phone mount at the front of the kayak, you can record and photograph your journey with ease. The rest of your essentials can be kept safe and dry in the included waterproof bag, which stows neatly under the front spray skirt. The Intex Explorer K2 kayak is made for lakes and rivers, but has a curved prow and extra rigidity at the ends to manage waves and slightly rougher waters than the Intex Challenger series of inflatable kayaks. It’s also no secret that inflatable kayaks are the more inexpensive option when it comes to boats meant for all sorts of bodies of water. Also, they are quite durable, not as frail as one would think. Worthy of your investment for sure.

Inflating the Explorer K2 takes less than ten minutes. Intex has printed a scale on the sidewalls that shows when the kayak is fully inflated. Once the printed line measures 10 cm, the Explorer is fully inflated and ready to go. This kayak is certified by the U.S. Coast Guard and comes with a USCG ID as proof for watercraft safety. There are also three air chambers in this inflatable kayak, one on the bottom floor and the other two on both sides.

Every time wear or bring with you a buoyancy aid, don’t be too overconfident about your swimming skills. It’s perfect for kids, novice kayakers, and for a family to enjoy. This should be your first inflatable kayak but it’s never meant for serious water adventures. Don’t expect for it to last very long either. People are also saying that it holds air rather well and that the deflation process is quite easy as well as when it comes to transporting it.

The carrying capacity of the explorer is the second-best thing (the first being the price) about this kayak. K2’s carrying a capacity lot more than expensive kayaks, let alone its competitors. The Challenger K2 is also an affordable kayak but it comes at almost double the price of the Explorer K2. The Explorer has two carrying handles, one at the bow and one at the stern. This feature makes the Explorer easier to handle and transport when inflated or folded. A similar inflatable kayak is the Intex Challenger K2. The biggest difference is the design. We have also an article where we compare both boats: Intex Challenger vs. Intex Explorer.

Performance Comparison

The high output pump works well and allows you to inflate the entire boat in less than 10 minutes. An electric air pump will definitely make inflating and deflating faster, but if you’re planning to use the craft occasionally the included pump will work fine. Intex Explorer K2 is an excellent recreational kayak and beginner's kayak. In connection, I don't think that it will fair well as a sea kayak or whitewater kayak. I'll explain why on the product review proper. Intex Explorer comes with all the features for recreational use and will be great for occasional visits to rivers and lakes. The Explorer K2 sits fairly high in the water, so longer paddles would be more useful and comfortable during long excursions. Takes longer to inflate than others
