Wildly glamorous and utterly intoxicating, The Birdcage is Eve Chase at her very best: taut, intriguing and evocative. Du Maurier with a modern twist -- Veronica Henry, bestselling author of How to Find Love in a Book Shop She is a graduate of Manchester University with a degree in English Literature. She has written for publications including InStyle, Dazed and Confused, Red, You, Marie-Claire, and national newspapers. It feels strange to describe a thriller about reconciling past sins as being heartwarming, but The Birdcage somehow manages to be suspenseful while at the same time remaining sensitive toward and generous to its troubled, flawed characters. Here’s Flora reflecting on the summer of 1999, and how it changed the trajectory of her once seemingly limitless life:Eve Chase is a supremo of this genre ... an intricately woven novel of suspense and secrets * Red * The Birdcage” is the fourth stand alone novel and was released in 2022. Lauren, Kat, and Flora are these half-sisters that share a famous artist for a dad, along with a horrible secret.

The Birdcage by Eve Chase - Criminal Element Book Review: The Birdcage by Eve Chase - Criminal Element

A remarkable journey to Cornwall and to the lives of a family that has to relearn to trust and forgive each other, The Birdcage is a thoroughly engrossing read. That in itself can cause problems, but added to that is a secret from 20 years ago that only some of them know the truth of. The plot is suspenseful and blooms at a slow but satisfying pace. Fans of Jane Harper will enjoy the vivid sense of place and the flawed, complex characters...' Booklist, USBecause life's grown-up lesson-always, by its nature, learned too late- is about consequences, mostly the unforseen ones." It feels strange to describe a thriller about reconciling past sins as being heartwarming, but The Birdcagesomehow manages to be suspenseful while at the same time remaining sensitive toward and generous to its troubled, flawed characters.. . The psychology and family dynamics are spot on, with Eve Chase sidestepping obvious cliches in the design of her engrossing tale.. . The twists and turns were above average, and the ending deeply satisfying. This is one of those thrillers that doesn’t rely on depravity to propel the plot, but turns its canny eye on how our all-too-human weaknesses can set off terrible consequences, and how love and compassion can heal and help us all become better people.” Criminal Element, US I loved it . . . engrossing, gripping and layered' Gillian McAllister, bestselling author of That Night But Walter Harrington had warned Rita if she did not report to him about his wife’s mental and physical wellbeing, he would fire her and have someone else replace her. For a morally upright Rita, she’d probably have quit her job instead of getting bullied into doing what she knew was against her morals, but she was close to the two children and knew that Jeannie was never in a good position to look after them. Jeanie was still recuperating from the loss of her baby months earlier, and her mental health wasn’t at its best.

Thank you to G.P. Putnam's Sons for the free electronic copy of this novel and for giving me the opportunity to provide an honest review. A beautifully written-mystery in an evocative Cornish setting at the time of the eclipse. Stunning -- Catherine Cooper, bestselling author of The ChaletBut if there was a precise instant that she’d turned into the sort of woman who’d marry a man like Scott, she’d been oblivious. All Flora knows is that before she’d been fearless, desperate to explore the world. But when they arrive, it’s clear they’re not alone. Someone is lurking in the shadows, watching their every move. Someone who remembers exactly what they did… Lorna soon gets involved with the woman in charge of the house and the housekeeper. She promises to bring more clients by publishing an article revolving around the house’s history and the family legacy. Little did Lorna know that her vague memories of the old Cornwell house link her directly to the house’s past and could possibly alter her future. Eve Chase never disappoints. The far west of Cornwall is evoked in all its wild and mystical glory in this lyrical and propulsive family drama about three sisters whose lives have been overshadowed by a tragedy on the day of the 1999 eclipse. Chase conjures up a bohemian, artistic world filled with damaged daughters and their charismatic, largely absent and narcissistic father. Immersive, tense and ultimately redemptive, while I was reading, it held me completely in its grip.”–Sarah Vaughan, author of Little Disasters I am a huge fan of Eve Chase, whose books always focus on the relationship between sisters. This book started off very slow due to little dialogue and just the inner thoughts of the characters. The pace sped up around 50%, when I correctly guessed the twist. Regardless of knowing how it would end, I enjoyed Chase’s message and the creepy birds!
