About this deal

Water and heat resistant chain covers prevents scratching and allows compact coiling; Rotating dust cover protects cylinder In which case I would say you only need the 8001 to protect your frame (and one wheel) if you use a bike stand. Now, although Abus steel is renowned for it’s strength to weight ratio, I’m dubious as to whether it would fare better than the 8020 against a pair of 42″ bolt cutters! https://cyclingindustry.news/kryptonite-obtains-gold-sold-secure-rating-on-all-kryptolok-integrated-chains/ I was also able to fit the Fahgettaboudit Mini under my belt loop, however this wasn’t hugely comfortable.

Cycle to Work is a salary sacrifice scheme, where you can save up to 42% off a new Bike and Safety equipment. This means the cost is deducted from your salary as a non-cash benefit, so you save on tax and national insurance. But whether you use a 7, 8 or 9 mm chain make sure you keep it as far from the ground as possible. In fact I would only use chain like this wrapped very tightly around the top tube. So you use something else to secure the wheels. If you only use it to secure your frame (tightly wrapped around your top tube), you can keep the chain shorter (and lighter). And even more significantly: it will be further from the ground so it will be much harder for a thief to crop it. Weighing 6.94lb (3.15kg) the Mastiff is more suited to stationary use, but if you’re feeling fit, you can carry the mastiff whilst you ride. The Mastiff is significantly cheaper, but yes it is clunkier to use than the CityChain 1060 and doesn’t offer all of the high-end features, but it does the job well.

If it works for you, that’s great. It’s such a beefy chain that most thieves aren’t even going to try to mess with it. I spoke with Roger Seal, the Sales and Marketing manager of ABUS UK & Ireland, as I was interested to hear what ABUS were doing to reduce their environmental impact. As long as you re-lubricate the chain’s cylinder and internal mechanism, I doubt you’ll have any problems with this product over a lifetime. They tend to be a bit more demanding than Sold Secure. 2/5 stars is roughly equivalent to Sold Secure Silver. 3/5 stars is more like Sold Secure Gold. That's not say they can't be cropped though. They can. 14 mm chains can conceivably be cut by the very biggest bolt cutters. But it takes a experienced thief, of considerable weight who is also able to get the chain in the right position.

The Mastiff comes with a lifetime warranty which covers you from manufacturing & workmanship defects. That same year, cyclists from one state began to file a disproportionately large amount of claims. New York. Kryptonite temporarily suspended the ATPO in New York and got to work straight away.I think the Smash Labs review was just a write up of Hal Ruzal video. I could be wrong though, I can’t remember it that well. That’s not to say you shouldn’t buy either of them. They’re both pretty secure. Just not top level. loved the article, thank you so much for writing it 🙂 it’s a joy to read articles like this that are about very specific topics and cover every consideration. Even though the Fahgettaboudit uses high-quality corrosion-resistant metals, I’d recommend cleaning & lubricating it every month. At the moment Kryptonite make two versions of the Kryptolok. The Series 2 is the original and is rated Sold Secure Silver. The New-Uis well, new(!) and is Sold Secure Gold.

But these chains certainly can be cut by bolt cutters if the thief knows what they’re doing and can get the chain in a favorable position. Hexagonal links present more surface area than a standard round chain link which make cutting and sawing through the Mastiff chain extremely difficult. I just am a bit puzzled, as I too thought the Series 2 integrated chain was Sold Secure silver-rated, but this article says that it’s gold-rated:Performance Cycling Limited 2023. Tredz is a trading name of Performance Cycling Limited. All Rights Reserved Firstly, because they're relatively long and flexible, you can secure your bike to a wider range of objects. But my main point stands: if a 10 mm chain is only getting a Bronze rating, there’s something wrong with it. And for me, the choice would be between the Hiplok, Kryptonite or Abus chains, because the OnGuard 10 mm chains are strange prospect...
