About this deal

WE GENERALLY FEEL defined by our past. Our past, however, is a story that we tell ourselves in the present.” International Magic Presents: The Derren Brown Lecture is an 80-minute lecture DVD of close-up mentalism and subsequent discussion of various aspects of Brown's performance. Again, this product is not intended for general consumption but is directed at magicians and mentalists only. Happy helped me to change my outlook. I went from unhelpful, negative thoughts to being OK and at peace.

That's probably all that I need to write. This little book explains Derren's philosophy of life, which is heavily based in Stoicism. Rather than chase often unachievable goals and endless acquisitions, he argues that to live a happier life we need to realise that we cannot control the future. Instead we should accept that which we cannot control and try to manage our judgement of events rather than the events themselves.

Learn how to think differently and overcome anxiety in a difficult world with the legendary star of stage and screen.

Alexander, Ella (24 November 2014). "Derren Brown on the disappointment of coming out: 'It's not that people react badly to it – they really don't care' ". The Independent . Retrieved 10 September 2023. Oh, my! I'm not exactly un-educated but I found the language very high-blown and academic. It was hard going at times but then, it would suddenly switch into story-telling. It fried me and I found much of the book hard to get though. It is VERY long and I would say that it could have been edited to half the length and still been detailed enough. I really don't know why he wanted to make it so incredibly detailed. Don't get me wrong, it's beautifully crafted, but I would say it belongs more on the reading list for a degree than your average Joe's weekend reading. (...) Málokdo najde správného partnera, bez toho, aby si prošel bolestí ztráty prvního. (...) Být šťastný by nás zastavilo v rozkvětu." You can’t change the past, and dwelling on it makes you miserable. But it doesn’t have to be this way. UK and Ireland tour which was originally planned to start in 2020 (postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic). Includes a run at the Apollo Theatre, London.

Independent (31 October 2012). "Derren Brown slams 'hurtful' accusations that zombie Apocalypse victim was fake". Independent.co.uk. It is a fantastic taster of what Derren Brown’s book Happy can give. The main points are there but one of the most enjoyable bits about Happy was the detail that Derren went into and his excellent and interesting anecdotes, these are not present in this smaller and surmised version. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it, even after just finishing Happy it was a nice round up of the lessons learnt. Nemusíme se bát Světa nebo z něj cítit nejistotu. Jediní démoni jsou uvnitř nás." (...) "Hledejte nepohodlí růstu před kalcinujícími efekty bezpečí."In its final chapters, Derren talks about death and ways in how to die well. It is, after all, an inevitability and encourages us to consider it in our route to happiness so that it doesn't tend to come all at once later on in life, or following a tragic accident, for example. He quotes Milan Kundera, "the act of forgetting is a form of death always present within life." and like all of us, eventually, one day our name will have been spoken for the very last time and our whole existence will be lost to history. Brown does not claim to possess any supernatural powers; conversely, his acts are often designed to expose the methods of those who do assert such claims, such as faith healers and mediums. He often begins live performances by stating that his results are achieved through "magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection, and showmanship". Witty, useful and beautifully written... this book grapples expansively with the most profound questions any of us face The Sunday Times On 2 September 2021, A Book of Secrets: Finding Comfort in a Complex World was published by Bantam Press. [84] [85]

His treatment of death is also good and I think will bring comfort to some people - but not all. He's adamant that there is no afterlife (a belief I can't share) which I found a bit sad, but that said, the rest of his treatment of the subject is constructive. I guess he's a humanist - which is fine by me -and for anyone who doesn't believe in "something beyond" I think it will be of great help. Ambition means tying your well-being to what other people say or do. Self-indulgence means tying it to the things that happen to you. Sanity means tying it to your own actions.” As Derren states the ending is the most important part of any performance and book. You can forgive if the dessert is scrumptious. I wanted the big reveal or the giant explosion at the end of the book, but happiness is not so simple.
