You can really work these colors and readily layer, move, remove color, even after dry. Won't affect layer underneath if you layer a bit of paint. IF you work it, you can mix and move colors around on the paper. I really like that! Just takes some getting used to! In finding this post, I also found your wonderful review of these watercolors. Thanks again! Happy painting! I also highly recommend a mixing pan or tray so you can properly dilute your paints, these are far too pigmented for use straight from the pan. Plastic works perfectly well, but I'm fond of porcelain as it's easier to clean. Both Kuretake and Kissho offer the cardboard box sets but the Kissho seems to be the only one that sells the plastic palette box set.

Water-based pigment paint can be highly opaque when used solely as a gouache but can also become more transparent depending on the amount of water added for dilution. I have to build up or remove colors or the paint is rather uniform. Hard to get my beloved hard darker edges. Don't leave big drops of paint/water cos it will dry shiny!In the largest set with the metallic colors, the Gold (often referred to as bronze), Bluish Gold (often referred to as gold) and Silver (sometimes referred to as “that pearl color”), are just amazing. Behind the cardboard cover is a table with some empty boxes for you to create your colour swatches. For a 12 pan set like this, you can actually still identify the colours by looking at the pans. However when there are too many colours, it will be difficult to identify because the colours will look too similar and that's when you will find a colour swatch table really useful. Discovery: The “Starry” palette seems to have a different binder, so you can (carefully) use them on top of other colors without too much smudging–much more so than the metallics that come with the sets.
