About this deal

I have a DAC X7 (the model just after the X6) at home and measured it. There's a +30° phase shift between 1 kHz and 10 kHz.

The DAC X6 (high biased, opamp rolled) is a brilliant piece of budget hifi. I love it. The combo with the modded T50RP represents absolutely stunning value. Customers have to bear any form of custom/import/processing fees that are applicable for your parcel. That is an interesting find. Definitely an attempt to copy one another. Who came first is had to tell. As is knowing which is better without a bench test.Low impedance headphones won't sound good with them as they can be quite sensitive to noise and such. The dac x6 has a output impedance of about 10 ohms so you generally want something above 80 or to be safe a 100 ohms as you generally want your output impedance/ headphone Impedance ratio to be 1/8or 1/10

As cranky as I can be, I can't really find any faults here with the physical execution and overall functionality with the exception of volume control issue. Comparing the X6 with my 'proper rig', what i did notice is that the X6 is inferior in just about every way. But this is to be expected; I've got a little bit of pride, about my set up. Particularly the source.

Front panel buttons are old fashioned toggle switches but they have a solid, reassuring feel. There is an on/off switch which I like and a button for selecting one of the three inputs. The feature set is quite rich with USB, optical (toslink) and coax S/PDIF inputs. The unit is externally powered which is another unique thing in this low price rage. As such, power consumption from USB port is minimal at 50 milliamps.

Fyi, I've switched from the Dac-X6. I found my laptop onboard actually had better mid's and high's. For the price yes it is quite incredible as you get an excellent case and plenty of juice to power HD6XX, but the clarity just wasn't there. Is this worth K1,100.00? It is to me. Your mileage may vary and will depend largely on the headphones you use and in what format/device you play your music. Onboard audio for a PC/Mac is already a step above your mobile phone. If you already own a decent set of headphones, love music, and want an improvement in your listening experience then I feel a DAC/Headphone Amplifier combo like the DAC-X6 is a good investment. I also love the physical volume knob and do feel when (not if) I upgrade to better headphones the DAC-X6 will serve me well! If you look for the best DAC amp combo, I suggest you take a look at DAC-X6. Starting with a design, I have to affirm that its styling is great and comfortable. It hasn’t unnecessary decorations and furnishes, the whole device looks smooth and simple. Volume control has about 90+ steps. Unit appears to have an optical encoder with maybe 30 steps per revolution. You have to spin the knob a LOT to raise and lower volume. PRE OUT and headphone out use same volume setting. This alone make the unit a mess.
