In terms of software, the Moto G8 Power Lite runs the slightly outdated Android 9, which means you’re missing out on the benefits Android 10 (which the G8 Power has) brings, like Dark Mode, Digital Wellbeing tools and Smart Replies. It’s not clear why Motorola opted for the outdated version of Android when the newer version is available, but we’d wager it’s another side-effect of the low price point. It’s a good thing that you don’t have to charge your phone too often, as the actual charging process could be quite laborious. As mentioned, the G8 Power Lite has a rather old-school micro USB port, and one of the downsides of this is slower charging speeds. The G8 Power Lite powers up at a leisurely 10W, which is one of the slowest speeds we’ve seen, even at this price point. A CPU core is the processor unit, which executes software instructions. Presently, besides single-core processors, there are dual-core, quad-core, hexa-core and so on multi-core processors. They increase the performance of the device allowing the execution of multiple instructions in parallel. The screen is one of the areas where the Moto G8 Power Lite gets a downgrade compared to other Moto G8 devices – with a 720 x 1600 resolution it’s rather low-res, and only HD, unlike most other smartphone displays which are FHD or above. Gaming might not be a great idea on the Moto G8 Power Lite, though, at least if you like your top-end games. We found that standard puzzle games, like Nonogram or Candy Crush-style apps worked fine, but PUBG Mobile would just crash when we tried to open it.
When it comes to recharging this phone lags behind the snappier modern phones, taking approximately two hours to charge up from 20% to full battery. That’s exactly the same as we recorded with the G8 Power, but it’s almost half as slow as the standard Motorola G8. There’s a fairly subtle teardrop notch at the top of the screen to house the selfie camera, and bezels run round the edge of the display, along with a relatively significant chin at the bottom.

The display resolution shows the number of pixels on the horizontal and vertical side of the screen. The higher the resolution is, the greater the detail of the displayed content. One of the main characteristics of the cameras is their image resolution. It states the number of pixels on the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the image, which can also be shown in megapixels that indicate the approximate number of pixels in millions. In terms of real world usage, I found that the battery dropped down to 95% from full after one hour of video streaming, and after three hours it had dropped down to 81%. That’s a good record, but given the massive battery combined with the undemanding display, I might have expected an even better performance; bear in mind that the G8 Power was down to 97% after an hour of video streaming. RAM (Random-Access Memory) is used by the operating system and all installed applications. Data in the RAM is lost after the device is turned off or restarted. The battery is a key selling point of this phone. A capacity of 5000mAh wouldn’t necessarily be expected in a top-flight flagship phone, let alone a cut-price budget model like this, so it’s exceptional to see that specification. However, the resolution is a little low, so you’ll notice that edges of shapes and letters aren’t completely clear-cut. This detracts from an immersive experience, but it’s still good enough to use for basic needs such as communication. But if you want to watch a lot of videos or even enjoy reading articles on your phone, you might want a slightly crisper display. Motorola has been a paragon of top-notch budget smartphones in recent years, and it continues to crank them out at record pace. Despite the slight image shift following the launch of the high-priced Motorola Razr and upcoming Moto Edge, Motorola is still all about affordability, and few phones embody that better than the new Moto G8 Power Lite. We keep repeating it; we always find the name 'Lite' somewhat unfortunate. And the addition of 'Power' only makes it more confusing. Because is it powerful or is it a lightweight? It's up to us to explain it properly. The name Power is a reference to the built-in MediaTek helio P35 processor. Altho it is a processor consisting of eight cores, it is not a very powerful chip. And with that, Motorola immediately undermines its own marketing storey. Because why 'powerful'? Of course everything is relative and you don't pay a lot for the G8 Power Lite, but call it G8 Lite. In terms of video recording, you can shoot in 1080p despite not being able to view it on the phone. There’s no option to change the frame rate, so we’d imagine it sits at a baseline 30fps, and you don’t get any of the various modes available on some other handsets, such as ‘short video’ or slow motion. Scrolling through apps can be a little juddery, but I didn’t find that apps would shutdown on me, and limited multi-tasking didn’t present any major problems either.
