Sadly, the new USB-C port makes charging the 1st-gen Apple Pencil even more ridiculous than it already was. Using the 2nd-gen Apple Pencil is not possible with this iPad and this means you have to use an outrageous USB-C to Apple Pencil adapter for pairing and charging. You also cannot magnetically attach this pencil to the edge of the chassis, so the Pencil becomes so easy to lose and looks absurd when replenishing its battery. Difficult to Recommend
