Arkham Asylum’s story was written by Paul Dino, whose long history with the franchise includes many writing credits on Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond. When Batman: Arkham Asylum came out, no one what to expect because all previous Batman games were medicore to crap so when this was announced that is what came to everyone's mind but then it came out and it was one of the best reviewed games of the year. It was a game that took everyone by surprise. So obviously there would be a sequel. But how can you top yourself? Simple. Make the world bigger and add more characters. And so we have Arkham City. While Arkham Asylum took place in the looney bin, Arkham City is essentially Gotham City which makes it much bigger and more rewarding.

An intermediary game in the series handled by a different developer in WB Montreal - the team took a bold step by creating a prequel, setting the game five years before the events of Arkham Asylum. It’s a much more contained narrative than the rest of the Arkham games, with a plot that sadly doesn’t amount to much beyond introducing Batman’s relationship with Troy Baker’s Joker - who totally steals the show with numerous standout scenes!
