About this deal

One of the last distillery's to operate in the centre of a town, Oban distillery dates back to 1794. Fine single malt whisky has been made in Oban for over 200 years, in one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The spirit is matured in a combination of American oak and European oak casks, which gives it a unique and complex flavour profile. Elegant and glowing, it marries the sea air character of the Island malts of the soft, richly fruit style of the highland, creating its own rich tasting West Highland malt.

The Oban distillery is one of Scotland's smallest distilleries with just two small lantern-shaped stills. Plus, Nick Offerman apparently drinks it as a deviation from his Lagavulin fixation, if you believe his (Diageo sponsored…) “ My Tales Of Whisky” video clips. Overall A true classic, Oban's 14 year old is a great coastal dram for lovers of lightly smoked, fresh malts. In effect, the town grew up around the distillery and since its foundation in 1794 it has played a crucial role in local life.

Balancing autumn fruits and sea air, Oban whisky owes its rich and rewarding Highland character to its very long fermentation process. Oban also offers tours and tastings for visitors to learn about the history and production of their whiskies. Like many of Scotland’s distilleries, ownership changed multiple times, and the distillery was modernized, too.

Founded in 1794 at Argyll, the distillery was initially operated as a brewery but began distillation shortly after. The cramped nature of the site places severe limits on production, which in turn means that demand for Obans richly appreciated malt is always likely to exceed supply. Today, Oban is said to be the second smallest distillery owned by Diageo when it comes to production capacity, at 870,000 liters per year. Filling and warming, with the comforting chewiness of rich fruit-bread and hints of orange zest and clove, before growing drier, still minty, with crisp green apple. Flavours of rich fruits, smoky dryness, honeyed spice, and a whiff of sea salt distinguish this full-bodied Highland malt.NID cookie, set by Google, is used for advertising purposes; to limit the number of times the user sees an ad, to mute unwanted ads, and to measure the effectiveness of ads. The tiny lamp glass-shaped copper pot stills that make Oban’s Scotch are among the smallest in Scotland, and the liquor they distill is slowly condensed in wooden worm tubs outside among the rooftops, exposed to the salted sea air, bringing a distinct depth of flavour said to go very well with salted caramel. You should also note that the picture images show only our serving suggestions of how to prepare your food - all table accessories and additional items and/or ingredients pictured with the product you are purchasing are not included. The West Highland malt is still produced in the same unhurried, traditional fashion and this 14 year old is a classic whisky from the distillery. First time I tried this scotch whisky was in March 2021, and I never have much acquired the taste for scotch, as I like fine bourbons.
