About this deal

It was after I put in those days and months of being there to listen, hold and comfort that it felt real.

I cried through a lot of this book, not for sadness of what was not to be but of the grief I felt at the time and wasn’t able to express. Ive had this book on my tbr list for a while, as I knew I needed to be in the right place mentally to be able to read it and to have the time to reflect.I hope I have shown her what it is to be in a loving relationship, and that life comes with its rips and tears, but they can be sewn up again. For anyone who has ever found themselves facing the unexpected in life - whether that's infertility, adoption, grief or any other personal challenge - this is an uplifting and honest account of finding love in unexpected places, and building your life on your own terms. It was just a bag, but I had really wanted to use it; filling it with nappies, wipes, a change of clothes, snacks and a book had brought me so much joy. This was really just a meeting to see how we were all doing now that the care plan had been carried out and Billie was starting to settle in with us. After Lisa had an ectopic pregnancy, she tried many things after to conceive again but sadly she failed to get pregnant.

So here I would like to recommend this book no matter if you have children or not, or if you are having trouble falling pregnant you may find some suggestions in Lisa's book Meant to Be. Meant to Be: My Journey to Motherhood by Lisa Faulkner is out now in hardback and in paperback on 5th March. We recently went to see the film Instant Family, which is about adoption, with a friend who has two adopted children, too.

When Lisa Faulkner learned that she wouldn’t have biological children, her plans and expectations for her life were derailed.

That first morning seemed like a military operation, with the alarm sounding and us all having to be ready to leave the house. Lisa’s words are beautiful and so many sentences could only be truly understood by those who have gone through the same journey.

The social workers (ours and Billie’s) met with us to go through what had been happening and to raise any pressing points or questions they needed to ask. The idea of adoption is not always easy for other children to understand; they imagine her being picked from rows of cots in an orphanage, like Tracy Beaker or Annie. In a raw and inspiring story of one woman’s journey through motherhood, family life and self-discovery, Lisa explores the many forms that family can take, and discovers the power of embracing your Plan B.

If anyone reading this is struggling to have children please pick up this book it will give you courage and their is help available out their. I had made dinner, we had kept her safe, we hadn’t done anything to overstimulate her and she had very happily gone to bed, and more importantly to sleep. For anyone who has ever found themselves facing the unexpected in life – whether that’s infertility, adoption, grief or any other personal challenge – this is an uplifting and honest account of finding love in unexpected places, and building your life on your own terms. All the experiences are so well written and I’ve found this to be a very therapeutic and uplifting book as I too parent plus.

I wanted the everyday things I saw mums do: finding a high chair in a cafe, putting the pushchair in the car. Life can be unexpected; my plan was to be in a happy marriage with a biological child, and look how that turned out. I understood looking at her how important the routine must be and how vital it was that she had her familiar sheets and teddies around her. This book is good for anyone who has been through this, or, equally, for those who haven’t, to gain an understanding of this difficult journey.
