About this deal

Erich is a Jewish man who has made it out of Vienna at the beginning of the war and comes ot work for the Navy. Tell No One, Gone for Good, No Second Chance, Just One Look, The Innocent, The Wods, Hold Tight, and Caught. Over the last few years, Harlan Coben has pretty much cornered the market on the middle-class suburban New Jersey family thriller genre. This book is no exception, and there's a sub-plot in the book that seems to exist for no purpose other than to allow for a totally unbelievable development right at the end.

I finished reading this book late last night after picking it up at the library last Monday evening. They install a sophisticated spy program on Adam's computer, and within days they are jolted by a message from an unknown correspondent addressed to their son - 'Just stay quiet and all safe. But I have to wonder what Coben's personal obsession is with having all the characters in his books marry their first love (aw shucks, how sweet), having these marriages end almost never in divorce but in the untimely death of a partner, having those who cheat duly (and violently) punished for straying, and constantly reminding readers that his couples keep no secrets from each other and, when they do, are likewise punished.

Despite its severe storyline involving WWII, German spies, and the US Navy, I'd expected this novel to be erotic because it was set in a gay brothel in Brooklyn. I know a few characters pop up in many of his stories, but I couldn't place who the DA was marrying, although I could place the character of the DA. This is the point in a movie when my facial-recognition challenged brain starts to wonder if the people are the same that were in the previous scene. He still lives in New Jersey with his wife, Anne Armstrong-Coben MD, a pediatrician, and their four children. In a visit to Yorkville Driberg commented on the availability of newspapers from Stuttgart and Berlin along with pamphlets of Nazi propaganda so the wider story is based on fact - little known facts perhaps but facts none the less. And whn an unidentified Jane Doe is beaten to death not far away, those connections threaten to turn this quiet community upside down—and force these desperate parents to decide whether there is any line they won’t cross to protect those they love most in the world.

There are surprises aplenty, but this time the ambitious scope - the anatomy of suburban vice - works against suspense; there are just too many cutaways to other embattled characters you want to root for but can't remember why. The house was hollow, gone, deceased - its heart had stopped beating, the blood had stopped flowing, the innards had begun to decay.Prior to reading Hold Tight, were you aware of some of the seamier aspects of life among suburban teenagers that the author describes, such as pharm parties? Harlan’s novel TELL NO ONE (NE LE DIS A PERSONNE) was turned into the renowned French film, directed by Guillaume Canet and starring Francois Cluzet. This was my January book Pal read, and yet another great Harlan Coben book, full of great characters, twists and turns, with the whole story and different characters weaving in and out of the plots very intertestingly and all coming together for an exciting and frightening few chapters.

Mike Baye, Adam’s father and an accomplished surgeon, is against the idea, but his wife Tia eventually talks him into it, citing that it’s his responsibility as a father to protect his family and this is sadly part of the deal at this junction. So then we had to get more vigilant about checking for electronics which naturally was not a welcomed activity by the teen. I have yet to read a book by Harlan Coben that didn’t grab me in the first few pages and hold me fixed until the final jaw dropping conclusion and this book is no exception. They worry that this is a violation of his privacy, but that concern is trumped by their larger concern for his well-being.

Hank is from Texas and has the general prejudices white people particularly from Texas have regarding black people. Now, this decade was way before my time, but if you press me, I'll admit the era fascinates me so much that I've not only seen a lot of movies set in the time of WWII, I've also watched a lot that were made in those years. Tā nu nokļuvu līdz "Klubs Jaguārs" - droši vien šis nav viņa veiksm;igākais darbs, ja jau tulkojumi nav sekojuši un latviešu lasītāji viņu neiemīļoja, bet atzīstu, ka man seriāli patika labāk par šo grāmatu. I rarely read them if I can help it, but I decided to give this one a try since I have liked Harlan Coben's books in the past. At times, I wasn't sure if his point was to show us the dangers of such technology or extol its virtues.
