About this deal

I’ve decided to trademark “it gets you there” for equipment that sends me into an emotional listening state. The Andromeda has a much larger stage, width especially, while the EST-6 has slightly more coherent imaging. One thing I didn’t mention in my review was that the smoke cables don’t discolour like the old silver ones. I very much enjoy this new packaging as they are beautifully designed inside out and gives a feeling as if you are unboxing a present. The MW10 comes across as more forward and intimate, albeit within a more defined space and better imaging.

Finally, to respond to Dale and Dave’s points, my concern isn’t that you are going to give a lousy headphone a great review just because you might profit from it, personally. Now, since Andromeda 2020 is a revision of the previous Andromeda which we have already covered as a review, this time we will change it up a bit with the formatting. The Aether R has more treble instrument body and texture, it’s a bit more organic while the Andro is more energetic and sparkly. This becomes especially apparent in sparse arrangements, and is most obvious with respect to percussion instruments. This means that, though the bass and lower-treble are slightly more commanding than before, neither are overly prominent in the overall mix, so the presentation remains subjectively very balanced. The Andromeda is ultimately still an IEM and suffers from the same limitations when it comes to staging. The real reason the current system works is because the mfrs are providing the reviewer the opportunity to enhance his resume with additional reviews via the new product.

Campfire has provided good cases for their iems since the outset and the latest models share that although it does make it tough to grab the one you want in a hurry as no labels exist to identify the model from the outside. I don’t know whether it’s worth spending an extra 1100 bucks on a new pair if your originals are still in decent shape. As Bruno has mentioned In his review, the strong points of this machine are smoothness and soundstage. The Andromeda 2000 (Andro2020 from here out) shares the same outer shell dimensions and shape with the original Andromeda, but internally has been updated substantially.

In short, Ara produces a sound that feels like a “fog-peeled-off” version of the Andromeda with enforced clarity and airiness. Now, I should mention that the contrast is less than strikingly glaring, especially if you’re AB-ing for only a minute or two. Resolution is excellent but not to the next level when coming from mid-fi like you would expect when crossing the thousand-dollar threshold.
