This is an excellent thriller, fast paced, great characters and an excellent story that takes you in and does not let go until the end. And he made me chuckle a few times, although you could argue that type of character seemed out of time and place. If you like your crime novels with a bit of graphic eye popping moments, edge of your seat tension and some spine chilling moments, then you will love Broken Dolls, as did I.Killer shows up, demands people commits crimes on others, killer doesn't do anything to touch people, and killer leaves. Broken Dolls is our first introduction to Jefferson Winters who used to work for the FBI and is now working freelance. I, however, am coming to learn that my preference for extreme horror lies with books that are so outrageously unrealistic that I can completely remove fiction from reality. I hope y’all know that you can trust me to be 100% transparent with my literary opinions, even when I’m reviewing the work of someone I know. Not a murder-mystery, or a who-dunnit, in that (as with all serial killer books) the killer is obviously not a character we know, it's more about how Winter figures out who the unsub is when all of London is the suspect pool. Big “Funny Games” vibes, (hence the epigraph) “No One Rides for Free” vibes, and “The Strangers” as well. I loved all the extra details that were thrown into this story which made it such an absorbing read.I have rated some books very low but the books I love like this one and most I seem to read I score high because I truly enjoy them. Hopefully I've left enough clues to whet your interest in this book, the first that I've read by this author. I kind of liked the premise and it has been a while since I've read the genre, so I thought I would give this a try. Let that be known first and foremost—I think he’s an incredible indie author who has a very bright future in the extreme horror space.
