About this deal

Parts of his childhood were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family was at the time, and in Stratford, Connecticut. In 1960, Gordie and his three friends − Chris Chambers, Teddy Duchamp and Vern Tessio − learn that a gang of hooligans led by John "Ace" Merrill have accidentally discovered the dead body of a missing boy named Ray Brower, who was hit by a train. Such a wonderful story that we can relate to the characters' lives and their interaction with each other. I am happy to have stumbled upon this one and will admit that I have not seen Stand By Me in its entirety, which will soon change. The moments in which only a child will feel afraid, because only a child has the imagination for it.

Gordie offers up much development as it relates to his friends, giving the reader a more comprehensive approach to those who populate the story.

But their journey becomes a rite of passage, and as they cross the railway trestle and the tracks begin to hum, the boys encounter an intimation of their own mortality. Apparently my original review defaults to something attributed to “Robin Waterfield” instead of Stephen King.

I'm not sure, I might pick them up eventually, but I mainly came here for the two most famous and beloved ones. Teddy himself becomes enraged with Milo and tries to climb the fence to attack him but he's dragged off by his friends. The boys grow tired with their hike but press on, at one point walking through a powerful thunderstorm. This time around I loved this book the only thing stopping it from being a 5 star read is that its in my opinion too short. Gordie has had a rough family life for about a year since his older brother Dennis ("Denny") was killed in a vehicle accident in the Army.Everyone in the group is wary of crossing the bridge lest a train come along but Teddy insists they can make the crossing safely and not have to walk five miles upstream to the nearest bridge. Non essendo una "da film", chi un po' ormai mi conosce lo sa, dopo circa un nano secondo pensavo di addormentarmi e invece. As the boys to begin their summer trek, they must come together to face winding train tracks, a brief dip in an interesting water hole, and a great deal of self-discovery. King is the recipient of The Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence 2022, the 2020 Audio Publishers Association Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2018 PEN America Literary Service Award, the 2014 National Medal of Arts, and the 2003 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.

Or if it's because I watched it around the same time, I watched movies like The Sandlot and My Girl. My adult years have been spent catching up and I have come to see that King can be a little intense, but he has a great deal I thoroughly enjoy. During their journey they experience the full spectrum of human emotion and come out of the journey a little different, a little more mature. In high school I found my tribe but I still have fond memories of my preteen "girl gang", even if I'm no longer friends with them. Obviously, it reminded me a lot of It as well as Stranger Things, at least when it came to Gordie and Chris (as I said. And then there is the very real fear that while you’re just about to go on your long journey and your life is lying in front of you, fresh and ready to be explored, a web of roads that may lead you anywhere, a succession of crossroads that present you with endless possibilities, that you might take a wrong turn somewhere and end up in a cul-de-sac.

I'm not even embarrassed to admit that I've rewatched Rob Reiner's version multiple times (I kind of lost count at this point) and that my heart aches terribly every time I see Chris and Gordie interact (come on, they're Byler in a different universe, ofc I love them). His crime thrillers featuring Holly Gibney include Mr Mercedes , winner of the Edgar Award for best novel, and The Outsider , both of which were adapted into successful TV series, as well as Finders Keepers , End of Watch and the title story from If It Bleeds . Another story from Different Seasons, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption is referenced in this story; Shawshank is described as one of Maine's state prisons. In preparation for the expedition, Chris steals a gun from his father, and the boys camp out in a nearby field. You always know the truth, because when you cut yourself or someone else with it, there's always a bloody show.Overall, however, it was a great experience, and I ended up crying over the perfection of Gordie's and Chris' relationship and Chris' character in general. Furthermore, The Body reminded me of a test run for It in terms of depicting physical and psychological violence against children. It describes the next year or so briefly, stating that Teddy and Vern drift off, befriending some younger boys whom they can lord over in the treehouse.
