About this deal

Precision tankers using Zarya could make the most out of every bite without losing momentum in a game. Players connected to her might find an instant surge of warmth in soups and dumplings. Welcome to Part 2 of our continuing review series of the official Overwatch cookbook. Last week’s feature had us enjoying a lazy Sunday brunch and this week has us cooking up lunch with the help of Sombra and Doomfist.

Umami describes a savoury and “meaty” taste the former Crusader continues to feel long after eating foods like the cheesy Kasespatzle. Mercy’s tastes reflect someone who likes a filling meal with some much-needed energy. Despite her health suggestion habits to teammates, she finds her own ways to keep her sweet tooth happy (and her well being happier). Reinhardt (Salty, umami, bitter, savoury) Reinhardt – Overwatch Okay, so sometimes Overwatch drives us to drink. There are toxic players in any gaming community and there’s also people that are just bad at the game. We don’t claim to be perfect, but we at least know how to stand on the payload. These Overwatch shot glasses are a great gift for the player that feels the need to take a shot every time their DPS dies because they’re not standing behind the Reinhardt shield. They’re really cool, decorative, and a great addition to anyone’s collection. Ana prepares a sweet milk mixture for Umm Ali, a traditional Egyptian dessert she loved to make for her daughter Pharah. Passed on from Ana’s own mother and reserved for celebrations, baking it reminds her of lost family time since a fateful duel with Widowmaker. These are some of the foods which deepen the personalities behind Overwatch’s battle-hardened characters. Zenyatta’s version of the Indian Til Ko Laddu reflects his simplicity with only four recipes needed. If there’s anyone in your life who loves Overwatch, we’ve put together a list of some excellent Overwatch-themed gifts that you could grab for them this holiday season. Or, you know, buy them for yourself. Christmas is a time for giving, and giving stuff to yourself totally counts. Overwatch Comic Anthology

The book’s 98 recipes feature easy-to-find ingredients which also change according to the hero’s place of origin. We’ve had a few teasers and a few glimpses at what to expect, but for now all we have is the original Overwatch. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Many of us are still chugging away, mastering each of Overwatch’s 32 playable characters. And many of us are still invested in the game’s ever-growing lore as well. According to the cookbook, the serene Omnic doesn’t eat. But it didn’t stop him from giving happiness to others through food. Support players choosing Zenyatta might love fun-sized pastries, as his recipes focus on delivering foods made to smile. Zarya’s love for pink is also shown through components like beets and red wine vinegar, which add tanginess flavour-boosters in her favourite soup.

This drink also finds a smooth, warm texture by incorporating heavy cream and butter. Players might feel soothed for a bit longer than usual before the next sip. For instance, there’s a super-rich pavlova that Widowmaker makes when she wants to think about her husband, who she totally murdered after being abducted and brainwashed by Talon and turned into a cold-blooded assassin. Yep. I read a cookbook. Cover to cover. Repeatedly. No I do not cook. Also, I do not play Overwatch, nor do I have any intention to start playing Overwatch.

Mercy’s affinity for sweet, filling and protein-high food follows her across the day in a mission to keep teammates alive. Her eats are also made for busy days when she needs nutrition and comfort on-the-go. Winston stares at an empty meeting table in Watchpoint: Gibraltar and takes a bite of pineapple pizza. A smile comes while chewing. He relives happier moments with teammates and companions before the Petras Act left him isolated. It’s hardly the first video-game inspired cookbook of its kind but where fare like Fallout: The Vault Dweller’s Cookbook or Elder Scrolls: The Official Cookbook draw on source material that’s both rich and sprawling, O:TOC has to do more with less. This particular mollete recipe calls for chorizo. Most major supermarkets carry the brand Cacique and it comes in pork, beef, and soy varieties. In my experience, this chorizo is not very flavorful so I definitely recommend adding spices to jazz it up. To make the meat for the dish go further, one tube is barely enough for two molletes, so I mixed the chorizo with ground turkey. Spread cooked beans on your toasted bun then pile high with the meat mixture. Top with shredded cheese and pop in the oven’s broiler to melt. After a few minutes, remove from the oven and finish with the toppings of your choice. I selected pico de gallo, slices of avocado, and fresh cilantro.Hanzo’s weakness includes the smell of Shimada Tempura, which brings a variety of sweet and umami tastes from deep fried vegetables. While the batter provides crispiness and some salt, it enhances incredibly savoury flavours from shrimp tempura. To accompany our molletes, I called upon another Talon member, Doomfist, to provide us with what else: Punch! See, like many AAA games of the modern era, Overwatch is pitched as a live service title. A living breathing experience that evolves and gets updated over time. The upshot? Overwatch is a game that rewards revisitation. The downside? The main plot is all but frozen in time. The lighthearted tone found in O:TOC doesn’t always play nice with some of the darker characters or more dramatic elements of the wider fiction it inhabits. Still, the framing that the book tries to create around each recipe is definitely a plus if you’re a fan of the universe and of these characters. Zenyatta’s sweet sensations continue with a vegan spin on Tibetan Momos, a steamed bun filled with spiced vegetables. Each one wraps a tight, fluffy bread around an incredibly savoury mix of onions and peas. Mushrooms continue adding creaminess as a light hint of red pepper and turmeric add some spiciness to compliment the bread.

Based on the setting of Blizzard’s team-based shooter, Overwatch: The Official Cookbook (hereafter referred to as O:TOK) tries to translate the cosmopolitan flavor of the game’s science fiction setting into a diverse selection of dishes, deserts and drinks. See, Overwatch isn’t really a game with much of a story. In a narrative sense, it’s all setup with no payoff. There are characters. Goodies. Baddies. And with over 30 playable locations in the game (many of which pull from real-world cities like Busan and London) to brawl within, there’s certainly plenty of conflict in Overwatch. As someone who hasn’t really used traditional cookbooks before, I had a great time working my way through O:TOC but that isn’t to say it doesn’t fall short from what it could — and what I hoped it would — be. The “spread” for this sandwich is refried beans which you can easily buy a can of and simply heat up before serving. After you’ve got your meat and beans cooked, toast up your rolls. I used kaiser rolls from our grocery’s bakery but you can use any sort of bun or roll style bread. Slice in half and toast. I’m not the type to get patriotic but, frankly, Overwatch’s Mad Max-esque take on Australia deserves better than this. If you’re connected to Reinhardt as a main, hearty family meals might be your fuel for long matches. Deep, juicy flavours from meats or browned veggies give you a much-deserved reward from sessions and take your mind off the objectives for brief moments. When you’re feeling full, a solace from bitter cheese can keep you appetized for a few more bites when the match counts down. Of course, there’s always room for some dessert later too. Zarya (Sour, tangy, umami, fragrant) Zarya – Overwatch Those cookbooks are made by people, sometimes even people in cooking franchises, but still just people with tastes and mindsets that have automatic biases. So uneven weights happen. Whether it's Italy getting a couple extra, or China, or France, there's always a slight slant. Sometimes that slant is even found in nothing but how the 'other country' dishes are all seasoned slightly wrong (like a slant Italian cookbook way underdoing it with the cayenne or turmeric in a dish from Marrakech).
