About this deal

Obviously the A7200G isn’t a miracle-worker. The way off-air broadcasts look is, as with every other source, entirely dependent on the quality of the incoming material. Some live sport, for example, looks pretty decent – the big, uniform area of colour that’s the playing field can get a bit noisy and restless, and the unpredictable motion can catch the Hisense out, but overall it’s pretty composed. If you have a Hisense TV that has the 4K resolution option, but it isn’t enabled, follow these steps to turn it on:

Control is available via the remote control handset or the Roku mobile app. The remote control doesn’t feel all that expensive (hardly a surprise) but it’s not the ergonomic disaster it might have been. It’s quite sensibly laid out, and direct buttons for Netflix and Freeview Play are very welcome. They’re certainly more useful than the direct buttons for Rakuten TV or Spotify, anyhow. There’s still no Chromecast or Bluetooth, but a substitute for the former is screen mirroring from a mobile device, or the Discover and Launch protocol for Netflix and YouTube. Alexa and Google voice assistants aren’t built in, but are supported via connected devices. You won’t be surprised to hear some of the plastics used in the construction of the A7200G feel pretty ordinary – this is an overtly affordable TV, after all, and costs have to be kept down. But everything looks and feels efficiently constructed, and there are certainly no creaks from the Hisense – even when it’s having its simple ‘boomerang’ feet screwed into place. If you have provided us with a mobile telephone number, our large screen couriers will send a text message or call you to confirm the day of delivery. The B7120UK offered an enjoyable performance, although it had a few weak spots in my estimation – namely HDR brightness and SD upscaling. Little seems to have been changed in that respect, but that’s no bad thing. The Hisense R50A7200GTUK Roku TV remains an impressive performer for the price.Picture noise is low, movement is generally (although not always) well controlled, and overall detail levels are pretty high. Textures are described well, and even quite intricate patterns are handled with confidence. Basically, if you give the Hisense the best stuff to work with, it won’t let you down. Most electric vehicles are automatic – but Toyota are looking to change that for a more classic feel

HD sources are managed with more finesse. There’s better definition to textures and faces, finer levels of sharpness, and colours are depicted with more volume, clarity and in a pleasingly natural way – not a trait I normally associate with Hisense’s more saturated output. The two simple ‘boomerang’ feet on which the Hisense stands are similarly pragmatic. Each is held in place by a couple of screws, each is nothing much to look at or touch – but each does what it needs to do without fuss and without drawing attention to themselves. While this is one of the simplest ways to find out if your TV is 4K, you may not have access to the manual. Many owners decide to throw it away or forget where they left it. Fortunately, there are other ways to see whether your TV is 4K.No one wants a TV that’s been overly designed, do they? And never fear, the R50A7200GTUK hasn’t been so much ‘designed’ as ‘put together’– and if you ask us it’s all the better for it.

Set-up is straightforward – once you’ve located the set-up menus, anyway. They’re clear and uncomplicated, which isn't always the case. It’s possible to tinker around the edges of the way the Hisense does its thing, but in truth there’s not a whole lot of meaningful changes to be made to the way the A7200G delivers images or sound. The six presets for ‘picture mode’, for example, basically alter colour temperature a little. Being offered the option to set ‘dialogue clarity’ to ‘low’ is quite amusing, though, admittedly. It'd be a fun challenge to watch a Christopher Nolan movie with that setting, if nothing else. Hold down the manual button on the unit for 30 seconds (if unsure of location please refer to the user manual).

HDR10 - makes whites brighter, intensifies colour and enhances the overall picture for an epic cinematic effect. All Hisense TVs are shipped with a user manual that contains detailed information regarding their specifications. If you want to find out if your TV is 4K, simply read the “Resolution” section, and you’ll find your answer. Watching a Blu-ray of The Favourite, colours looked spot on – nuanced and lifelike in appearance – and the detail brought out in the period costuming and production design was consistently good. Skin tones are natural, images colourful with fine detail, impressive showing and good levels of clarity – at times I forgot it was a 1080p signal. The 4K Blu-ray of Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood produces a sense of naturalism with skin tones that are both varied and well conveyed. Brad Pitt’s complexion isn’t as ruddy as I remember it on the B7120UK. In fact, the A7200G’s images strike me as less punchy overall. At 9.8kg, it’s slightly heavier and measures at 1116 x 648 x 82mm (without the stand) – so again, very similar. Feet are stationed out wide, and assembly means slotting them in and tightening the screws. Getting to the TV’s start menu takes minutes once the TV has been registered. The best soundbars for small TVs can bring you big sound from a compact unit and make speech clearer
