This is DJI's budget drone - and economies by make a simple modification to its equally-popular and appealing predecessor. If it weren't for the name on the arm it'd be hard to distinguish between the Mini SE (or the Mini 2 the airframe came from before that). The camera specs remain the same, too. The drone industry is booming, and it’s easy to see why. Flying the best drones can be fun and rewarding and many modern models come equipped with high-quality cameras, too, making it simple to capture stunning aerial video and photographs.The DJI Mini 3 Pro arrived in May 2022 and redefined what DJI was doing with the ultra-light category, with some collision sensors and a 4K 60fps camera which could physically rotate to vertical mode. Under 18 months later, the Mini 4 Pro finished the job, making the collision sensors omnidirectional and adding 10-bit D-Log M video and waypoint programmable flights while keeping under the magic weight. The limited range is somewhat restrictive but, provided you don’t mind choppy video, it’s nevertheless the best starter drone around.
The Hornet is one of the easiest entry level drones to fly, a quadcopter specifically aimed at beginner drone pilots who have an interest in aerial photography. We loved the Point of Interest mode, where we could choose a target and a radius and the drone would rotate around it. It flies like a grown-up drone, too, and although it doesn’t have object avoidance sensors like the Mavic Air or Mavic 2 Zoom, it’s responsive, predictable and a joy to pilot. It doesn’t have the hyperlapse video or advanced panorama photograph features of its more expensive brethren, either. On the other hand, flight time is an impressive 30 minutes, which is incredible for a drone this small and light, and the remote controller’s range of 2km is phenomenal. You won’t be able to see it at that distance, though.

We tried to use the Return Home feature with little success outside. However, it worked well inside. Fitting under the term drone, you’ll see terms like quadcopter, hexacopter, and octocopter. The prefix refers to the number of rotors on the device, where quad equals four and octo equals eight. Nevertheless, the Mavic 3 will do the job in a lot of situations, and it can do it for much longer too; hovering for up to 45 minutes. Some might see the folding form factor as belonging to consumer territory, but that’s an old-fashioned perspective in the drone world and amongst clients; this is an aerial camera that (while being over most weight limits) is more portable than most and certainly priced for professionals.
