Within the GIS, a user can combine habitat maps with other data layers to understand the vulnerability and resilience of different coral reefs. For example, by mapping sea surface temperature it is possible to understand which coral reefs are exposed to high temperatures most often. Higher than normal ocean temperatures can stress coral reefs and sometimes cause coral bleaching. Morgans, C.A.; Hung, J.Y.; Bourne, D.G.; Quigley, K.M. Deep coral areas, with particularly high density and size, were identified, as well as the areas most affected by fishing impact and mass mortality events. All this information is fundamental to have a comprehensive picture of the demography of an endangered species and to depict the best conservation actions. Data availability statement
